VISTA, Calif. — Custom wheel maker HRE Performance Wheels is rolling out a line of carbon fiber/aluminum two-piece aftermarket wheels that it says sets “new standards” for performance and quality.
The new CBRN line uses a “reinforced resin” system and proprietary vacuum resin transfer molding technology to achieve high impact resistance and “class-leading” strength-to-weight ratios, HRE said.
The two-piece wheels feature a carbon fiber rim bonded to forged aluminum centers with high-strength titanium fasteners. Customers will have the option of choosing a satin or gloss “Frozen” clear coat on the CRBN rim itself and one of HRE’s custom finishes for the forged center.
Initially, the CRBN Series HX1 line will include four styles: the HX100 Mesh, HX101 Y-Spoke, HX104 V-Spoke and HX107 Split 5-Spoke, in 20, 21 and 22 inch diameters, with expanded fits coming soon. , HRE says.
“With carbon fiber wheels becoming increasingly available from multiple OEMs, we knew the materials and technologies were finally ready for us to achieve our goals with carbon fiber,” said Alan Peltier, CEO of HRE Wheels.
“What’s exciting for us is that the CRBN rim is just the beginning of HRE’s use of exotic materials and advanced manufacturing methods,” he said. “Our goal is to keep pushing the boundaries in order to continue to exceed the exacting expectations of our customers who own the most sophisticated supercars and hypercars in the world.”
Compared to aluminum, carbon fiber requires meeting a different set of engineering constraints, but like all HRE wheels, the CRBN is designed to minimize unsprung mass and rotational inertia while maximizing strength and impact resistance. Such efforts result in optimal acceleration, handling and braking performance, claims HRE.
Additionally, HRE said they took “extra care” in the design and construction of the CRBN rim to eliminate the seam seen in other carbon fiber rims.
Since each wheel is made to order, there are endless fitment, color and finish options available for a unique wheel buying experience. CRBN wheels are available in center lock designs and are compatible with OE TPMS and lug hardware for ease of installation.
The CRBN rim also features an RFID chip embedded inside the barrel for quality assurance traceability and better customer support.
New wheels start at $6,350 each.
