TaylorMade Golf Stealth Fairway Woods and Hybrids Take Carbon Fiber Use to a New Level

TaylorMade Golf’s Stealth driver is going to get a ton of attention for its 60-layer carbon fiber face, with the company now calling itself a manufacturer of carbon wood (instead of wood or metallic wood).

However, the technology found in drivers rarely makes them complementary fairways and hybrids at the same time. These last two clubs are smaller and so it is more difficult to find ways to incorporate new materials and features into them and to offer significant advantages. The function of the two clubs is also different from that of a pilot, so the design goals are not exactly the same.

That said, TaylorMade has made some hardware improvements in its new Stealth line of fairways and hybrids (rescue, in TaylorMade parlance).

Stealth fairway woods

Stealth fairway woods are available in two models: Stealth Plus and Stealth.

The Stealth Plus sports a 175cc face using ZATech titanium, which has an ultra-thin construction to maximize face flex and increase ball speed. The carbon crown is 12 percent larger in carbon area and the face is 12 percent larger compared to SIM2 titanium fairways, allowing for greater low and tail distribution – the lowest in a TaylorMade adjustable course . The V Steel sole has been redesigned to help with forgiveness while the 80 gram weight still helps with the turf interaction of any lie. All in all, the Stealth Plus has 12% more MOI compared to SIM2 Titanium fairway woods.

The Stealth model has a new carbon crown for the 190cc head and also has a refined V Steel sole. Stealth fairways feature the C300 Twist Face, which is designed to maximize ball speed and aid in the direction of shots across the face.

In both models, a laser-etched alignment stretches across the top of the face, providing subtle visual cues with a minimalist aesthetic. A Thru-Slot Speed Pocket helps increase face flexibility and improves ball speed, especially on lower hits across the face.

There is a Women’s Stealth offering with a lighter head and higher lofts, sporting a shiny silver PVD sole and dark silver crown.
